About BillableStack

Software for one-person businesses and tiny agencies, tested by one.

BillableStack helps freelancers, consultants and small agencies (1 to 10 people) choose the tools that run their business: invoicing, proposals, contracts, CRM, client portals, project management, time tracking and automation.

Why this site exists

Most “best software” lists are written for companies with an IT department and a procurement budget. If you are a freelance web designer or a three-person studio, you have different questions:

  • What will this actually cost me with 1, 3 or 5 users after the trial ends?
  • How long until I send my first proposal or get my first invoice paid?
  • What is missing from the free plan, and when will I hit the wall?
  • How painful is it to leave?

We answer those questions by using the tools on real workflows, not by rewriting feature pages.

Who is behind it

Bryan Ruzafa, founder of BillableStack

Hi, I’m Bryan Ruzafa. I have built websites for small local businesses: quoting the job, chasing approvals, sending invoices and waiting to get paid. That is exactly the kind of work these tools promise to make easier, and it is the lens I use to test them.

BillableStack is itself a one-person business, so the stack we review is the stack we run on.

What you can expect

  • Hands-on testing. Every review and comparison is based on accounts we created and workflows we ran. See how we test.
  • A clear verdict. Who a tool is for, who should skip it, and what it really costs.
  • Honest money talk. Some links are affiliate links. They never decide our verdict. Read our affiliate disclosure.
  • Kept up to date. Pricing and plans change constantly, so every article shows when it was last checked.
